Our Lady of La Vang Print
In 1798, a time when Catholics were persecuted in Vietnam, many faithful in Quảng Trị Province sought refuge in the rain forest of La Vang. In hiding, many of them became ill.
While praying the rosary one night at the base of a large tree, Mother Mary appeared to them in the branches, holding her Son and dressed in traditional clothing of the area. It is said that she comforted them and told them where to find medicinal leaves to alleviate the suffering of those who has become sick.
In 1802 Catholics returned to their villages, passing on the story of the apparition in La Vang and its message. As the story of the apparition spread, many came to pray at this site and to offer prayer and incense. In 1820, a chapel was built on the site.
